  Fall is my favorite time of year... it's finally cooling off and pretty soon I get to plant my allium and tulip bulbs. And we get to start decorating for the holidays - yippee! From left: Louis, Valerie, Alfie, Ziggy, and a spiral form  I've been working on creating a series of mushroom characters. My first little fun-guy is called Alfie. He has big ears - he is based on an Amanita muscaria- the classic red and white toadstool.  So he is my first mushroom elf. The second one in the series is Ziggy. He is based on an Ink cap Mushroom also known as Inky cap. Did you know that this is an edible mushroom? I don't know if I would eat one. It looks sticky and not appetizing - but the colors are still appealing as an art form for my amigurumi. The third one that I have created is Valerie. She is based on the Veiled Lady Mushroom (Phallus indusiatus) - she has a dramatic lacy skirt so I made this little creation a "she/her" - I love the mystery of her being veiled and all.  A few weeks ago, I asked Kailea to paint me a picture. I wanted it to have her style painting that she's been doing lately. Colorful but with bold black outlines. I wanted a copy of an old advertisement that I had seen at the Little Dutch Store in Salt Lake City. First I looked for a similar copy on eBay... but none ever turned up. So, I turned to Kailea for my copy. She did a wonderful job. We turned it into stickers as well and they are available in our Etsy shop . I love Kailea's version.  This is my first free crochet pattern that I have shared. It hasn't been tested by anyone other than me, so it should be made by an experienced crocheter. That said, I think I have written it clearly. Just about every stitch is single crochet. I do like to begin with the magic ring technique most of the time. I also use a continuous round system so a stitch marker will help you keep track of your round and stitch. It's not listed in the pattern but I often subtract or add a stitch when switching colors to line up my rounds.
